Every entrepreneur’s journey is filled with lessons learned, and I’m no exception. In this blog, I’ll share my experiences and reflect on the five biggest mistakes I’ve made in my business career. Hopefully, my insights can help you avoid similar pitfalls.
One of the earliest mistakes I made was not enlisting the services of an accountant right from the start. I underestimated the complexity of financial management in business. An accountant not only helps with tax planning but also offers crucial financial advice and ensures that your financial records are in order. Hiring one earlier would have saved me a lot of time, money, and headaches.

While helping a friend or colleague find work can be well-intentioned, recommending someone for a job without thoroughly vetting their skills and work ethic can backfire. I made this mistake, assuming that a casual referral would have no consequences. It taught me the importance of being careful when putting my reputation on the line and ensuring that anyone I recommend is truly qualified and a good person.
In the early days of my business, I thought that sharing bits of my personal life on my business social media accounts would make me more relatable. However, I quickly realised that oversharing personal details can blur the lines between personal and professional boundaries. It’s essential to maintain a professional image on business platforms to avoid potential misunderstandings and maintain credibility.
I fell into the trap of offering my services at a lower price, hoping to secure larger projects in the future. This strategy often backfired as it attracted clients looking for the cheapest option, rather than those valuing quality. I learned that it’s better to price my services appropriately and attract clients who appreciate the value I provide, rather than underestimating my worth.
An effective online presence is vital in today’s digital age. I regret not investing in a professional website earlier in my business journey. A well-designed website can build credibility, attract more customers, and streamline business operations. Waiting too long to create one held me back from fully capitalizing on theonline market.
Business is a journey filled with ups and downs, and making mistakes is inevitable.
